A Buddhist Temple
Connecting Identity
Links
Dallas wants to be known as a place of religious freedom and cultural acceptance. The Thanks-Giving Square began in 1964 in Dallas, Texas was dedicated to "giving and living" thanks and the recognition of tolerance and religious diversity. An outdoor public space for the community and a circular spiraling chapel by Phillip Johnson in 1977 for all faiths was created to celebrate the "unification of races without violence and religious tolerance."
In this spirit, the Thanksgiving Foundation wishes to develop a religious center in downtown Dallas to continue it's mission and bring multiple faiths together for spreading religious tolerance and education to the community. They propose developing in close proximity to one another a space of worship and community for a Jewish Synagogue, a Muslim Mosque, and a Buddhist Temple. The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the seat of the Catholic bishop, is located a few blocks away
