A place for music is a project for a small music venue in Springfield, MO. It includes a venue space, coffee shop, administration, and recording studio. The main design goals were to create a vibrant and dynamic space for enjoying music and socializing. It includes a operable mesh louver system around the venue space to control light and to create visual interest from the outside with the light from the interior filtering outward. The formal arrangement of space takes the form of a G guitar chord, creating a staggered space. The materiality plays with a mixture of natural wood for accoustics and a warm environment, mixed with dark metals meant to envoke a conversation between accoustic and mechanical forms of music entertaiment. The project includes a full set of construction documents that are shown below.
